Bing Search Results with the Google Interface - TopBits.com

Google’s recent “Panda” updates have increased Google’s reliance on domain authority as a ranking factor.  This makes it easier for “powerful” domains to rank and harder for other domains to rank.  The end results are that the Google SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages) now feature far less diversity and the individual results are significantly less relevant.

Google’s SERPs are now dominated by a smaller number of sites.  Brand-name sites like Microsoft, Wikipedia, YouTube, and Amazon now rank more and better than they ever have before.  The small niche expert sites which are sometimes called the “hidden web” are now more hidden than ever.

These “brand” sites are now ranking for many search terms for which they do not have relevant content.  This forces searchers to click the back button and try another search result — or to try another search engine.

Aside from the big brand sites, the other winner from Google’s recent updates is Bing.  Web searchers are slowly leaving Google due to issues with search quality. Microsoft’s Bing search engine has seen it’s unique visitors increase from 82,995,659 before the change in February to 90,282,643 in May.  (Statistics courtesy of Compete.com)

The Bing UI

Bing’s user interface, although not as noisy as Yahoo’s, is extremely annoying.  It is actually painful for me to look at.  I get a vaguely claustrophobic feeling like I am trapped in a web design course taught by people who still think gradients are “cool”.

The Solution – Binngle

Daniel Kay of Florida recently created Binngle.  Binngle combines the superior search results of Bing with the attractive user interface of Google.  Actually, it is even better than that, because unlike Google, Binngle is ad-free.

Binngle provides the cleanest search results we have seen in years.  It removes all the annoying and useless clutter that Google and Bing are wrapping around search results.

Your searches through Binngle are also anonymous and they are lightning fast.  Binngle makes searching more productive and less annoying.  There are lessons here for both Google and Microsoft.
